Got the letter today. Didn't get the job.
Bit of a bummer, but oh well. At least it's all over and done with.
Mum and Dad are right, although the job would have been interesting it would have been stressful and it would have been hard to plan anything that I would have wanted to do.
I should really start looking at going back to school, for a nursing degree, to find out what's involved.
thanks for all the support through this guys, it has really helped

They passed you up for somebody else? Maybe I'm biased but I think they made the wrong decision there ;). And you deserve better than a letter. I've had to go through two (sometimes painful) vendor appliations for my job. I always make sure to call the applicants who didn't get the position to thank them in person for their time and effort for the process.

Anyhow, I know how disappointing it is to pursue something and then not be selected. In my current job search, I haven't even yet been called in for an in-person interview. Either because they just have way too many candidates or because they're only interviewing internal people and only advertised the position to meet their legal requirements. So it's a kudo to you that you got asked to come in for an interview.

I had idea about your interest in nursing, but I can certainly see it. A friend of mine from UCSC (who's BA is in Literature) went through the MS program at UCSF and is supposedly quite pleased with her degree.
