Things to do in Seattle?

Any suggestions for things to do in Seattle?
Definately will go to Pike Market, and then was thinking of strolling around Fremont, Capitol Hill and U Districts.
Any other ideas? Are the tulip fields up north still in bloom? Is that worth seeing?
We will have Friday and Saturday for sightseeing etc.
Tuesday travelling to Portland, Wed and Thurs morning seeing Portland, and Thurs afternoon Shipwreck beads, and driving up to Seattle.

Date: 2003-04-22 03:11 pm (UTC)Other stuff? I finally got to visit the Frye Museum on First Hill in February b/c one of my friends was participating in a group show there. They have a great collection and it's totally free to get in. I was not too thrilled w/either the U District or Fremont (too much construction going on), but there's always walking around Queen Anne, Ballard (Archie McPhee!), or the lower side of Capitol Hill around 15th Avenue East (first part of the city I lived in). Oh and make sure to go have a Zombie (soup tureen sized cocktail I was telling
And there's always the Eastside if you're interested in trespassing on to the grounds at Microsoft for a look see. I'd recommend Red West (my last place working for them) for the grounds and chunks of the Berlin Wall in the cafeteria.

Not sure if we are going to see any of them, hopefully will hear if they will be around

Date: 2003-04-22 04:23 pm (UTC)there's a super nice yarn/weaving/spinning store in the "university" area of Seattle called Woodland Woolworks.
my dad's family lives in the Tacoma area, and if you go through Tacoma, it's worth it to stop at the museum of glass (glass museum?). they have a live glassblowing display, and some really nice exhibits of glass and other art. when we were there they had a kind of zoetrope on display that was literally the most amazing thing i've seen in my life. it's supposed to be there through may, and i VERY VERY highly recommend stopping to see it. http://www.museumofglass.org/s01_installation.jsp is the info about that
really. it was the most beautiful, mesmerizing thing. i sat on the floor watching it for half an hour, and i gladly could have sat there all day.
Tacoma!

Wallingford
Date: 2003-04-22 04:28 pm (UTC)Man that Zombie could be classified as a WMD --after drinking part of it (and various other cocktails to be honest) I had an attack of drunk food and woke up the next morning feeling all bloated for my friends' wedding.

Date: 2003-04-22 04:40 pm (UTC)-Pike Place Market
-Seattle Underground Tour: cheesy tour of the lost underground city that's underneath Seattle. A bit corny but you actually learn a lot of neat stuff about Seattle and the history of the American West. Cool!
-Seattle Center: look at the Space Needle! Ride a scary little roller coaster!
-Volunteer Park & nearby cemetary: as mentioned, Bruce & Brandon Lee's graves, plus just a beautiful, historical setting
-Archie Mc Phee AND the Ballard Locks/Golden Gardens
-the Bainbridge ferry. The views of Seattle and the Olympics are lovely and you can eat some Ivar's fish n' chips on the way.
I'm sure the Luau has delightful drinks but for West Coast Tiki, I don't think you can beat the Tonga Room in San Francisco. It rains! There's a band on a floating raft! They also have a "lava bowl"! And other than Pike Place or Archie McPhee, most of Seattle's shopping destinations are nothing to write home about.

Date: 2003-04-22 05:16 pm (UTC)I dont think the tulips are anything to write home about but i grew up up there so maybe i have become numb to their beauty. in any case, it's getting a bit late for tulip-ing.
i am really frazzled from today's crazy work day but i will respond with some fun seattle-y things to do in the morning when i'm more clear headed! kickarse had some good suggestions.

Date: 2003-04-22 05:20 pm (UTC)the aquarium just tore down a big exhibit so unless they are lowering the admission price in the interim i don't know if there's a lot to see there. the little otters are damn cute, but i'm not sure they are worth $9! the woodland park zoo is a GREAT zoo and also has otters, although they are of the less adorable river variety.
i used to live in tacoma and i really like it there. the museum of glass is pretty cool, and the thrift stores have much better pickins too!

Date: 2003-04-22 05:23 pm (UTC)I also reommend Broadway for shopping, and 45th Ave in Wallingford if you like cute, more pricey Boutiques.
If you like Bingo, there's a cool place in Shoreline next to the Crest Movie Theater where I just won $100.
Pine St. has the trendiest bars like The Cha Cha Lounge, where you might see some local rock stars, and Graceland on Eastlake usually has really good indie/hardcore bands.
I know there's more...
