Friday around 11am, it was pretty slow at work, and my captain asked if I'd want to leave early - hells yes!
This meant I was able to go over to Golden Gate Cycle and pick up a decent rain suit. Which I was very glad for the next day!

So, I decided to go out to Sacramento Fri instead of Sat, and went out to the meet n greet. i stayed over at a local scooterist's place, with my club mate Val, and 6 other scooterists! He took great care of us and cooked a yummy breakfast for us the next morning.
Early Sat morning it started sprinkling, so there was a decision to be made as to wether we should go up with the others to the scooterist cabin near Lake Tahoe, or go to Scootouring. Val and I decided to brave it and do Scootouring.

Scootouring was fun, but it rained, a lot. So we did the whole ride there in the rain, which was pretty challenging. About three breakdowns, so we stopped three times for that.. in the rain. They did shorten the ride, and slow it down, so that helped.
Then it was raining out at the land, but it did ease up after an hour or so to either a very light sprinkle or breaks with no rain. But hey, it was nothing beer, beer bungie, tritip bbq, a big campfire and Jaeger shots couldn't cure. The rain did subdue the boys a little, it was pretty quiet after 1am, unheard of!
The next morning, we packed up, and Val and I headed out a little earlier with the Napa/vacaville crew and took the quick route back along Hwy50. It was pretty windy. Back in Sac we got Val's truck ramp from our friend's place, and for some lunch while we waited for the gear truck.

Then we headed out on Hwy 80. It was windy, like super freakin windy. Like oh fuck I'm slowly but inevitably being blown across three lanes of traffic. Val was awesome (she was following me in her truck, that she had her scoot in) and protected me from cars. I had to slow down to about 35-40mph and battle my way back across. I made it back to the slow lane, almost went out again, but stayed in place (good thing there, there was a semi coming) and we took the next damn exit we came to.
Poor Val, when we stopped and she got out, the poor thing was white as a sheet and started crying, I felt so bad I'd put her thru that!
Our scooter friend Curt who lives in Vacaville (who called us when he had gotten home to warn us about the wind and offer to pick me up) is an amazing man. We gave him a call, I admitted defeat to the wind, and asked if he could come get me and my scooter. Which he did. He's so generous. Not only that, but just before the 680 turnoff, he got a call from another scooterist who had gone out to the rally, and had broken down near Antioch. I hopped back in Val's truck and she took me home. Curt drove out to Antioch, got the other girl, drove her home to San Jose, then drove back up to Oakland to drop my scoot off to me. And we called the poor guy right before he was gonna have a nap!
I feel very lucky to have such great scooterist friends, they really look out for each other.

So, it's been an exciting week scootering. There's another rally this coming weekend. Chris is going to come on the Sunday ride with me out to Port Costa, but we'll skip the longer Sat ride! Phew, I need a break from it! ;)
