Some thoughts on CGSG*

My parents are 'owners' at this place. The can transfer the membership to me nominally, so that I am the primary user. Otherwise would have to go as their guests. They do have their share on the market, but will probably take a long time to sell.
Can take up to 19 guests in a regular reservation (20+ is a group, and needs approval, which I doubt we would have trouble getting anyway) Guest passes are $10 each, per day.
The cabins are cute, have bathrooms, beds, bunks, kitchens etc. There's a big pool, hot tub, Rec center (with TV etc) lake, archery range, hiking everywhere, not far from the Kern river. I haven't been up there in years, but apparently lots of stuff has been donated to the cabins, but in general will need to bring bedding, and kitchen stuff (cooking and eating stuff), and food of course (lots of beer!)
It's the old town of Johnsondale, if you want to Mapquest it. From LA I think it's 3-4 hours. Might be a bit longer from San Fran.
Now, last August, the big fires down there singed the edges, so I don't know how 'pretty' it looks these days.
You can only call 30 days in advance to make a reservation, so if we went with this we might want to have a couple of possible weekends.
Any thoughts on this?

Weekends can be hard to book, but maybe having a bigger group might help.
Regeneration after a fire happens quite quickly, but it may still be kinda black in the surrounding hills up there.

There are also RV's that you can stay in (with bathouses etc) if all the cabins are booked. There is space for tent camping too, if a weekend we really wanted did not have any cabins available.
You can book only 30 days in advance, so right now, that means in a few more days you could try booking for May 16-18 weekend, and so on.
I could suggest some weekends, and then try calling in for them? I can do May 30-June 1, and then starting June 13-15 weekend I can do any weekend ongoing at this point.
Oh you poor ladies!
Do I have to bring a canoe or do they have them there?

There are several white water outfits in Kernville, that you can take river trips from. The river doesn't run through the ranch though, it's not far away.
Don't know if there are canoes for the lake.
You have a canoe?
Wow

Umm, comment. We should go as early as possible or wait til fall. It will be unbearably hot in August. Take it from a central valley girl.

I also vote for any time other than the weekend of August 8th. My cousin's getting maaaaaried, so I'll be in Oregon. But any other time. Depending on the way things go, I may still have my 4Runner with room for lots o' gear...
Yay!
PS, I almost forgot, if it's after June 12th, y'all can liquor me up legally ;)
